The moment in the video where the clip begins.
Short clips keep the SVG small: each frame is stored as a picture.
How to turn a video into an animated SVG
- 1Drag your video into the box above, or click to choose it.
- 2Choose where the clip starts, how long it is, the smoothness and the width.
- 3Click "Convert", then download the SVG. Open it in a browser to watch it play.
How the animated SVG works
The tool takes frames from the part of the video you choose and stores each one as a picture inside the SVG. SVG's own animation feature then shows them one after another, like a GIF. It plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and apps that don't animate SVG simply show the first frame.
Because every frame is a picture, the file grows with the length, smoothness and width. A 3-second clip at 10 frames per second and 480 pixels wide is usually a few hundred kilobytes to a couple of megabytes. The tool limits clips to 150 frames. For longer videos, a real video file is the better choice.
Want shapes you can edit instead of pictures? Use the MP4 to SVG tool, which traces a single frame into vector shapes.

Frequently asked questions
Does the SVG have sound?
No. SVG animations are silent, like GIFs.
Why is the SVG file big?
Each frame is stored as a picture. Make the clip shorter, lower the smoothness to 5 frames per second or choose a smaller width.
Will it play in PowerPoint or Figma?
Most design tools show the first frame only. The animation plays in web browsers and on web pages.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us or anyone else, so they stay completely private.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert. The only limit is your device: very large files need more memory.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. Very large files may take longer on older phones.
