What tracing does
A video frame is made of pixels. Tracing groups neighbouring pixels of similar colour into shapes and describes their outlines as curves, the way an SVG drawing is made. The result looks like a poster or illustration of the frame, and it stays sharp however much you enlarge it.
The detail setting decides how many colours are used and how small a shape can be. "Simple" gives a bold, graphic look and a small file; "Detailed" keeps more of the picture but makes a bigger file with many more shapes. Clear frames with large areas of colour, such as logos, animations and screen recordings, trace best.
For a moving SVG made from several frames, use the Video to Animated SVG tool instead.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't the SVG look exactly like the video?
Tracing turns pixels into flat colour shapes, so fine textures and soft gradients become simpler. Try "Detailed" for a closer match.
Can I edit the SVG?
Yes. Every coloured area is a separate path, so you can change colours or delete shapes in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or any SVG editor.
How do I choose the right moment?
Play the video in any player, note the time of the frame you want, and enter it in seconds. For example, 1 minute 5.5 seconds is 65.5.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us or anyone else, so they stay completely private.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert. The only limit is your device: very large files need more memory.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. Very large files may take longer on older phones.
