What happens to the video
A video file holds a picture track and a sound track. This tool keeps only the sound, decodes it and saves it as an MP3, the audio format that plays on practically every phone, computer, car stereo and music app. The picture is left out, so the MP3 is much smaller than the video.
MP3 quality is set by its bitrate. 128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts, 192 kbps is good for most music, and 320 kbps is the highest MP3 quality. As a guide, one minute of audio takes about 1 MB at 128 kbps, 1.4 MB at 192 kbps and 2.4 MB at 320 kbps.

Does converting to MP3 lose quality?
A little, because the sound is encoded again. At 192 kbps or higher, most people can't hear a difference from the video's original sound.
Can I convert videos from my iPhone?
Yes. iPhone videos are MOV files, and this tool accepts them along with MP4, WebM and MKV.
Why does it say my video has no sound?
Some videos, such as screen recordings made without a microphone, don't contain a sound track, so there is nothing to convert.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us or anyone else, so they stay completely private.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert. The only limit is your device: very large files need more memory.
Does it work on my phone?
