When should you convert PNG to JPG?
PNG is a lossless format. It keeps every pixel exactly, which is perfect for logos and graphics but makes photos and large screenshots very heavy, often several megabytes each.
JPG is designed for photos. It compresses them much more, usually making files several times smaller with no visible difference. That helps when a website, email or form has a file size limit.
For images with sharp text, lines or flat colours, such as diagrams and interface screenshots, JPG can add slight blur around edges. Use a high quality setting, or keep those images as PNG.
Your files stay private
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see them, not even us.Read our privacy policy
Frequently asked questions
Why is the JPG so much smaller than the PNG?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG removes detail your eyes can't easily see. For photos this usually cuts the file size several times over.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.
Will text in my screenshots look blurry?
At high quality it looks sharp, but JPG can add faint marks around sharp edges. For screenshots that are mostly text, a quality of 90–100% works best.
Is image metadata kept?
No. Any metadata stored in the PNG is removed during conversion.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us or anyone else, so they stay completely private.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert. The only limit is your device: very large files need more memory.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. Very large files may take longer on older phones.
