When you need WAV

WAV stores sound uncompressed, as plain samples. Editing software, DJ tools, samplers and CD-burning programs handle it without extra decoding, and some only accept WAV. The files are 16-bit, at the MP3's own sample rate and channels.

Converting doesn't bring back detail the MP3 left out; the WAV sounds exactly like the MP3. It is much larger, though, about 10.6 MB per minute for stereo at 44.1 kHz.

Frequently asked questions

Will the WAV sound better than the MP3?

No. It sounds exactly the same. WAV avoids further quality loss when you edit and export again, but it can't restore what MP3 compression removed.

Why is the WAV file so much bigger?

WAV stores every sample without compression, so it is typically 5 to 10 times the size of the MP3.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us or anyone else, so they stay completely private.

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert. The only limit is your device: very large files need more memory.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. Very large files may take longer on older phones.
