How to convert JPG to WebP

  1. 1Drag your JPG images into the box above, or click to choose them.
  2. 2Pick a quality. 80–90% keeps photos looking sharp while saving a lot of space.
  3. 3Click Convert. Your images are converted on your device.
  4. 4Download each WebP file, or download them all at once as a ZIP file.

Why use WebP instead of JPG?

WebP is an image format designed by Google for the web. At the same visual quality, WebP photos are usually around 25–35% smaller than JPG, so web pages load faster and use less mobile data.

Faster pages are good for visitors and for search rankings, which is why tools like Google PageSpeed Insights recommend serving images in WebP. All modern browsers can show WebP images.

Keep your original JPG files too. Some older desktop programs and printing services still can't open WebP.

Your files stay private

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see them, not even us.Read our privacy policy

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my images be?

It depends on the photo, but WebP is typically 25–35% smaller than a JPG of similar quality. Lowering the quality setting makes files smaller still.

Can all browsers show WebP images?

Yes. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Opera all support WebP, on both computers and phones.

Can I convert PNG files to WebP here?

This page is for JPG files. For PNG images, use the image compressor, which can also save in WebP format.

Is photo information (EXIF) kept?

No. Metadata such as the camera model and GPS location is removed, which makes files smaller and protects your privacy.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us or anyone else, so they stay completely private.

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert. The only limit is your device: very large files need more memory.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. Very large files may take longer on older phones.
