Why convert Excel to CSV?
CSV is a plain-text table that almost any program can read, from databases and online shops to accounting software and code. Many upload forms accept CSV but not Excel files.
Each cell is written the way Excel shows it, so dates, currencies and percentages keep their familiar look. Formulas are replaced by their results, and empty rows are left out.
Your spreadsheet is read entirely in your browser, which matters for payroll, customer lists and other confidential data.
Your files stay private
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see them, not even us.Read our privacy policy
Frequently asked questions
What happens to multiple sheets?
With "All sheets" chosen, each sheet becomes its own CSV file, named after the sheet. Empty sheets are skipped. Choose "First sheet only" if you only need one.
Are formulas kept?
No. CSV can only store values, so each formula is replaced by the result Excel last calculated.
Is formatting kept?
No. Colours, fonts, merged cells and charts can't be stored in CSV, so only the values are kept.
Can I convert a password-protected workbook?
Not at the moment. Open the file in Excel, remove the password, save it, and then convert it.
Will Arabic text open correctly in Excel?
Yes. With the Excel-friendly setting ticked, Excel shows Arabic and accented letters correctly when it opens the CSV.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us or anyone else, so they stay completely private.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert. The only limit is your device: very large files need more memory.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. Very large files may take longer on older phones.
